From time to time, we all like to give our homes a bit of TLC, and that usually comes in the form of decorating of some kind. The great thing about decorating home is that you feel almost as if you’re in an entirely fresh, new property — without the hassle of moving. What’s better than feeling everything is fresh and new? If you’re into the latest interior design fashion, then chances are you’d LOVE to give home a fashionable makeover, right? Well if this speaks to you, then here are some top tips on how to give your home the stylish makeover that you’ve always dreamed of.

Revamp the front door

If you’d put your home on the market and were thinking “how can I get someone to buy my house

”, chances are the first thing you’d consider doing is upping your curb appeal, and giving the exterior of the front of your home a little bit of attention. The reason people do this when they’re selling up is because it’s the first thing people notice when they pass or come to view the property, and first impressions count. So if you want to make an impression on people with your stylish makeover, why wouldn’t you do the same thing?

The front door is literally THE first thing people will notice before they even cross the premise of your home, so why not make an impression? Usually, if the outside of your home is looking a little tired, a far cheaper alternative to renewing the brickwork and so on is giving your front door a bit of a makeover. A lot of people opt for brighter colours, or an interesting patterned window film if they’re looking to make a statement. Just have a look around, and see what suits your style best.

Update the kitchen

Now, have you ever heard the expression that the kitchen is the heart of the home? Well, that exists because it’s absolutely true, and it’s one of the rooms people look at the most when they enter a property — especially potential buyers, which market specialists like Springbok Properties can help find. It can actually add value onto your home.

Your kitchen can make or break the sophistication of your house, so if yours hasn’t been given some attention for a while, then make this a priority. That’s not to say that you have to rip the kitchen out in its entirety and renovate the entire thing. Just that you should consider doing a few little improvements. Some of these you could even DIY.

For example, is it your cupboards and handles that are looking a bit worse for wear? Why not invest in some sticky back wallpaper, and jazz them up? Or alternatively, sand them down and either paint or varnish them? Then to finish them off, pick up some expensive-looking (note the “looking) handles for the doors, and update them. Likewise, you could even just look at doing some tiling improvement on the wall. The smallest things will make the biggest difference, and pretty soon you’ll feel as if you have a whole new kitchen.

Set a theme

Have you ever noticed what it is about all upmarket houses that they all have in common? No? well here’s a little secret. They all follow a colour theme, throughout the home.

That’s right, it can be as simple as that. The best thing to do is choose some neutral tones for the wall, a rich and luxurious colour such as deep plums and ruby reds for furnishings, and accessorise with a form of shiny metal such as rose gold, or instead go for deep mango woods. That’s just an example, but that point that’s being made is that you should pick a theme, and have it run all the way through the house. This is one of the most effective ways of making your house look more expensive and stylish.

Don’t forget the garden

Last, but certainly not least, although we are nearing the end of Summer now, it’s important not to forget your garden. One of the most stylish and expensive-looking furniture trends for the outdoors right now, is outdoor furniture that looks like indoor furniture, such as lounging beds and sofa-style seating. Then in the winter months, you can just put it away in storage until the sun comes back out. If you really want to add to it, consider getting some solar-powered fairy lights for your garden to give it the finishing touch.
